Major League Dog Services, owned and operated by Andrew Navarro, is a testament to his passion for dogs and his journey towards becoming a skilled professional in the field. Andrew's story began when he was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan as a member of the United States Navy. Seeking companionship, he decided to bring a dog into his life. However, he soon realized that having a well-behaved dog required more than just wishful thinking. Determined to nurture the ideal canine companion, Andrew delved into extensive research, learning various techniques, and honing his skills to achieve his goal.
Through dedicated effort and countless hours of practice, Andrew soon gained a reputation as "the guy who knows how to work with dogs." Friends and family members approached him, amazed at his ability to correct behaviors they believed to be unchangeable. As his love for dogs continued to grow, Andrew and his wife expanded their fur family, welcoming more dogs into their home. It was at this point that Andrew recognized the importance of acquiring formal training in professional dog handling.
Seeking guidance from a seasoned expert, Andrew traveled to North Carolina to train under the tutelage of Robert Masters, founder of Dogs Listen to Us. Robert was immediately impressed by Andrew's application of training methods and encouraged him to consider a career in dog training. Inspired by this endorsement, Andrew began seriously contemplating the prospect of turning his passion into his profession.
To materialize his aspirations, Andrew understood the need to take concrete steps towards his goal. He enrolled at Montgomery College Rockville Campus, embarking on a path of continuous learning and growth. He completed the Animal Care course, immersing himself in the intricacies of animal well-being. Eager for more knowledge, Andrew also undertook the Pet Care Business course, instructed by the esteemed Paul Fletcher Whitworth, fondly known as "Fletch." These educational experiences laid the foundation for his journey as a knowledgeable and skilled professional.
Recognizing the importance of being prepared for any situation, Andrew pursued Pet First Aid & CPR training. The challenges presented in this field captivated his interest, sparking a newfound passion for the animal medical realm. This prompted him to apply for the Veterinary Assistant program, where he had the privilege of learning from the exceptional Carianne Edmondson-Furth. Balancing the demands of full-time work and late-night classes on Fridays proved to be no easy feat. However, Andrew's unwavering determination and commitment propelled him forward. He completed a rigorous hands-on internship at Brookville Animal Hospital (BAH), diligently applying the techniques he had learned in the classroom and acquiring valuable practical skills from the experienced BAH staff. Through hard work, dedication, and earning the trust and respect of his colleagues, Andrew achieved his ultimate goal of earning the Veterinary Assistant Certification.
